Monthly Skyline Update

What It Is

The Monthly Skyline Update is a citywide construction documentation series produced by BestHouse Films and published on a monthly basis.

Insured drone flights are used to document active commercial construction across four major areas of Charlotte. The series provides a consistent, neutral visual record of what is being built and where.

The Monthly Skyline Update is a core function of the company. It is not project-based client work. It exists as an act of industry advocacy.

The Series Is
  • Independently produced

  • Free of charge

  • Not influenced, controlled, or prioritized by any builder

  • Not affiliated with the City of Charlotte or any municipal entity

  • No builder is granted special treatment, placement authority, or decision-making power over the series

How It Works

Our site representatives are equipped with Class 2 PPE and may appear on active job sites. Supervisors on duty are offered the option to opt in to the Monthly Skyline Update via tablet.

Participation is voluntary and based solely on opt-in. Supervisors may select from available return days for a drone pilot to revisit the site. If you opt in, a drone pilot will return on the selected day to document the site.

All flights are conducted using insured drone operations and Part 107 federally licensed pilots. Pilots operate out of the way of crews and site activity. Flight duration may last up to 30 minutes, depending on weather and site conditions.

No site is flown without signed builder permission.

When the new Monthly Skyline Update is released on the first Tuesday of the following month, participating builders whose sites were featured receive a short copy of their site footage (typically under one minute) for internal use.
